Governors Ball Transport Tips

Getting to Gov Ball is easy. Getting home is the real test. 50,000 people all leave at 10 p.m. and the Mets-Willets Point platform was not built for that.

Quick answer: How to get to and from Governors Ball 2026 at Flushing Meadows. 7 train, LIRR, rideshare strategy, and how to beat the 10 p.m. exit crush.

Getting there

The 7 train is the default — the LIRR is the upgrade
The 7 to Mets-Willets Point runs through Times Square, Grand Central, and across Queens. It works. The LIRR Port Washington Branch stops at the same station, runs from Penn Station and Grand Central about twice an hour, and is noticeably faster and less crowded. Weekend CityTicket fares keep it affordable. Most people do not know about this option.

Arrive at gates-open or after 4 p.m.
Gates open at 11:45 a.m. If you arrive right at open, entry lines are short and you get first pick of locker locations and viewing spots. Peak arrival (1-4 p.m.) means 20-45 minute entry waits. After 4 p.m., lines thin again.

Rideshare dropoff is near the NY Hall of Science
Set your destination to ‘Governors Ball’ or ‘NY Hall of Science’ for the rideshare zone on the northwest side of the grounds. Getting dropped off is painless. Set a pin for the exact spot — you will need it to find pickup later.

Getting home (the hard part)

Leave two songs early or wait 30 minutes — the middle is the worst
The headliner ends, 50,000 people stand up at once, and the 7 train platform turns into a mosh pit. Rideshare surge hits 2-4x immediately. Either leave slightly early and beat the rush, or wait 30-40 minutes for the crowd to thin. People who leave right at the end spend the longest time waiting.

Walk north toward Roosevelt Ave before requesting a rideshare
Even two blocks away from the official pickup zone, surge pricing drops significantly. Walk north toward Roosevelt Ave, request from there, and you will pay half what the people standing in the venue pickup zone are paying.

The LIRR is the exit cheat code
Same station as the 7 train, but the LIRR platform is separate and far less crowded after the show. Runs to Penn Station and Grand Central. If your hotel is in Midtown, this is the fastest and calmest way home.
